Let me introduce myself...


My name is Richard Calkin and I am the founder of Web Genius, which I launched back in 2000, after spending 15 years in various branches of the marketing communications industry.

I started my career as a journalist, before moving into graphic design, print production, advertising, direct marketing, corporate communications and marketing strategy.

Like many in this industry around the world in the mid to late 90s I was furiously trying to get my head around how this new medium called the internet could best be employed to achieve my clients’ marketing objectives.

I had been an early adopter of the world wide web as a marketing option, first building a website for a client - a nationwide electrical products retailer – in 1995.

Many lessons were learned in those early years: most importantly the fact that for most traditional business servicing a local market, the internet was first and foremost a relationship marketing tool.

By building a database of existing customers and prospects (both online and offline) and communicating via email and the web, a business could build valuable relationships more easily and cost-effectively than ever before.

Over the intervening years, as more and more consumers have come online and use the internet to find information, products and services, the medium has also become a powerful generator of leads and sales for local businesses.

Development of the Web Genius formulas and software began in 2000, meaning that you are tapping into a tried and tested system, which is – without exaggeration - one of the most long established such businesses on the planet!
